My husband installed them with his handy nail gun, caulked the top and bottom of the edges and painted them the same color as the wall, Sherwin Williams Snowbound. We were conscious of where the horizontal trim pieces landed with the tops of our door frames and spaced them to line up evenly. You can also buy 1x2 pieces at your local hardware store. We used 1x2 trim pieces that we cut down from existing wood we had and spaced them out every 12 inches. Thank goodness my husband is handy and did all the millwork himself. The horizontal boards gave the room texture while giving me the clean and clam look I wanted, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Take a guess on which one I went with? Although I love the look of vertical board and batten, I felt like it’s becoming a little over done and wanted to do something different.
For this space, I had two designs in mind.
